I'll be out of commission, so to speak, for the next few days; we're spending Passover with our families; first J's, then mine. This will be a fun-filled extravaganza of kiddies, food, and nonstop packing and unpacking, so please excuse me for falling behind on your blog-lives, albeit temporarily. In the meantime, I'll leave you with this very important thought:
I pass a Nine West store on my way to work each morning. The past few weeks, I've seen a shoe in the window display which fills me with such horror that I'm rendered momentarily speechless literally each time I see it, such is its fugliness. The shoe in question? The Tobago. First and foremost, I just learned the name of the shoe by searching the Nine West website. In so doing, I also learned that this shoe is not silver, but
MERCURY. Whatever, Nine West. That, however, is actually the least of my problems. The crux of the matter is that Tobago is perhaps the ugliest, most unflattering shoe that I've ever seen:
See what I mean? Completely covers up all (ostensibly) attractive areas of the foot, and it has a CLEAR WEDGE HEEL. (Hard to make out in the above picture, but there all the same.) It's like...it's like...a stripper shoe for the elderly. Geriatric G-String Divas, or something. And? They have the audacity to charge $89 for this affront to fashion.
Could it be any uglier?

Ha. Well, I grew up in the '70s and '80s, so in terms of fugliness, I'd only call that "medium."
I think it could be uglier if it had some kind of rhinestone pattern on it. Like if the rhinestones were placed in the shapes of signs of the zodiac.
OK, the clear heel did it for me. No way, no how. And who pays $89 for a pair of shoes anymore? Hello, discount wearhouses???
Actually, since having a child, I spend no money on myself, so that may be it. Old Navy is a treat for me.

OMG, Metalia, I saw the shoe before reading and I actually gasped in horror. After gagging a moment, I said urgently, "Please, Metalia, don't say you like these, please just don't because I like you and want to continue to like you without liking you despite bad taste in shoes."

I picture middle aged, thick toenails oozing out of that horrid peep toe. I see one of "those" women who are too "mature" for hot pants and a midriff baring halter; that woman who hangs out at cheesy bars waiting for men to buy her a drink.

Hmmmm. I used to work in a shoe store (and we did sell to strippers! and trannies!) but the point is I have seen worse. There were these pink and white patent tennis shoes on stilletto heels. Vomit. Enjoy Passover!
my biggest issue is all heels. they're the most uncomfortable things ever. to paraphrase robin williams, im almost 100% convinced they were invented by a misogynistic bastard. I know, because I've warn them....it was a weird purim....but ye. if you can wear those bad boys comfortably, my hat is off to you.

I disagree with many of you about the style of the shoe but do agree about its clear lucite heel. Only two types of people wear clear lucite heels; strippers and bridesmaids. However, lucite and silver, both separate and together are a very big trend this year - Mary J. Blige and several other stars purchased this shoe during various Oscar, Grammy, and emmy related events this season.
